Youth Protection

Occoneechee Council and National BSA are committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for our youth members. It is the mission of our volunteers and professionals to create a culture of Youth Protection awareness and safety at the national, regional, area, council, district and unit levels. Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required for all BSA volunteers.

University of Scouting

University of Scouting is a fun, collaborative opportunity to learn and network with your fellow Scout leaders. We offer sessions for all leadership levels, regardless of experience, on a variety of Scouting topics to supplement your basic training.

Outdoor Ethics Training

Scouting is designed to be experienced outdoors, and we need to make sure we always show the respect the outdoors deserves. Outdoor Ethics training teaches skills that help prevent or at least minimize impacts to the environment while enjoying outdoor activities.

Wood Badge Training

Want to be the best leader you can be? Wood Badge is the ultimate Scout leadership training course. It is available to registered leaders of all levels of the Scouting program and is guaranteed to make you a better Scout leader in your unit and a better leader in everyday life.

Additional Adult Training

Whether you’re a first-time Scout leader or a seasoned one, we have additional training resources for you! As we know, a trained leader is more knowledgeable and confident in their role, and they, in turn, pass that along to the people around them. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, safety and a whole lot more. BSA has a wide array of adult leadership training programs starting with the basics and working your way up, so please check out everything we have to offer! Click here to learn more.

Youth Training

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)

NYLT is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide our youth members with leadership skills and experiences that they can use in their Troop, Crew, Ship…and also in daily life situations demanding quality leadership. This training integrates the best of modern leadership practices with Scouting. Through activities, presentations, challenges and discussions, NYLT participants will be engaged in putting into action the leadership skills they are learning. Check out our training calendar below to find out when the next NYLT program is offered!

Additional Youth Training

BSA offers additional training for youth to be able to take on leadership roles in their troops. The training is designed to help them better understand their responsibilities and to equip them with organizational and leadership skills to fulfill those responsibilities.
