Districts

Occoneechee Council is divided into geographic districts in central North Carolina. Each district is served by at least one professional staff member — district executive and/or district director — who leads teams of hundreds of adult volunteer leaders in providing Scouting programs to the youth members in the community.

EXPLORING

Exploring provides co-ed hands-on career Exploration opportunities in 12 career fields to youth ages 10 to 20 in all 12 counties served by the Occoneechee Council. Exploring focuses 100% on providing immersive Career Exploration, professional mentors, youth leadership opportunities, and community involvement.

Explorers can earn National Awards and National Scholarships. Explorers can participate in the council, local, regional or state Exploring competitions, special events, socials and community projects. Businesses, Agencies, and/or Organizations host Explorer meetings/activities in the evening, on Saturday mornings, after-school, or during school. Each Explorer Post or Club meets weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly. Explorers can participate in BSA Winterfest and Jamboree. Explorer Scouts do not wear Boy Scout uniforms, do not earn badges, and traditionally they do not participate in the annual BSA Fundraiser.

Explorer Scouts can join more than one Exploring Post or Exploring Club but pay only one registration and insurance fee. The cost to join Exploring is a flat $57 for registration and insurance and this amount is pro-rated if you join after January 31, 2023. Some Post and Clubs are NO COST ($0) to join due to grants, donors or the sponsoring company covering 100% of the registration and insurance fees.

To start or join an Exploring Post or Exploring Club please contact Regina Johnson, Exploring Executive at 984.489.0688.

SCOUTREACH

Scoutreach is the provision of resources to units operating with low income hard-to-serve urban and rural communities.  These resources include stipend leadership, registration fee assistance, uniform and handbooks, program equipment and summer camp camperships.

The vision of Scoutreach is to recruit strong adult leaders and develop solid relationships with chartered organizations in urban and rural communities to ensure our underserved youth have the opportunity to join and experience the Scouting program.

ScoutReach strives to build self-esteem and confidence in, and teach leadership skills to underserved youth in the Occoneechee Council’s service area. The Occoneechee Council is committed to ensuring all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or ethnic background. Scoutreach provides adult leadership and financial resources to ScoutReach units.
