WHITNEY M. YOUNG, JR. SERVICE AWARD CEREMONY & DINNER
The Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award is a recognition of individuals and organizations who offer outstanding service in the development of Scouting for underserved youth in urban and rural communities in the Occoneechee Council service area — this is in fulfillment of Dr. Young’s dream of justice and equality for all.
To qualify for the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award, a nominee must have made a significant contribution to helping underserved youth in the Occoneechee Council service area.
This year’s honorees are Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc., and Mason Brooks.

Occoneechee Council continues to follow the most current guidelines issued by the CDC, NC Department of Health, and local health departments to help ensure we keep everyone safe while delivering life-changing programs to support local youth
The objectives of the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award are:
- To recognize an individual or company for its involvement in helping creating a better environment for low income or rural neighborhoods with use of Scouting or other programs.
- To showcase ScoutREACH Scouting programs that give special leadership and emphasis to urban or rural area programs.
- To raise funds to support ScoutREACH efforts in the Occoneechee Council. Over 90% of the funding, leadership and program fees in the outreach programs are provided by the Council.
