Unit & Member Renewal
Scouting America now offers an online unit and member renewal process. Unit renewal and member renewal will no longer be one and the same.
Membership is now a set 12 month term from the time of registering regardless of when the unit renews. For example, if your current registration expires on December 31, your renewed membership will begin on January 1 and run through the following December 31.
All units and members currently registered with Scouting America need to complete this process on a yearly basis going forward.
Please note: The membership renewal process is still being refined and systems are being updated. Updated information will be posted to this website when we receive it.

- $51 for Merit Badge Counselors ($25.00 National Fee + $26.00 Local Council Fee) (fee applies only for Merit Badge Counselors not already registered as leaders)
- $15 for Scout Life magazine subscription (Optional)
These fees go toward the cost of providing essential resources that support our many volunteers and youth members.
Note: There is a fund designated to help families in need of financial support called the Scout Assistance Fund. Details are on the Forms & Documents page. If you apply for this financial support, you must use Option 2: Unit renews individual membership when doing the renewal.
Unit Renewal
Please read all instructions before proceeding.
Note:
- Unit Renewals should be done before any Member Renewal.
- The designated Key 3 doing Unit Renewals (the Chartered Organization Representative (COR), Chartered Unit Representative (CUR) or the COR/CUR delegates) can complete the Unit Renewal starting 2 months prior to current Unit Term expiration. For most units, that would begin in November.
- Payment for Unit Renewal is $100 annually. If paid online via credit/debit card, there will be a $3 service fee. If paid online via ACH, there will be a $1 service fee. You may also choose to turn your Unit Renewal in at the Council office.
- It is not possible to add people to the roster during the Unit Renewal process. If the unit needs to add new people to required positions, this must be done using the normal new member application process.
- All new member additions or position changes must be processed before the Unit Renewal and before the unit registration expires. There is no grace/lapse period for this, and the Council cannot extend this deadline.
Individual Registration Renewal
There are several options for Individuals to renew their Scouting membership.
Please read all options before proceeding; you should use the method recommended by your unit.
Note: The membership renewal system only calculates and charges national and council fees. Most units charge a unit fee to offset their operating costs. The membership renewal system does not include unit fees. Contact your unit to find out what their fee is and how it is collected.
All renewals are for 12 months. Renewals start the day after the end of the previous membership term.
