The Outdoor Ethics Guide is a junior leadership position which qualifies as a leadership position for Star, Life and Eagle rank advancement. This position replaces the Leave No Trace Trainer leadership position as of January 1, 2016. While there is currently no required training for this position, this training is highly recommended as a basis of knowledge to better serve their unit.

Outdoor Ethic Guide Responsibilities:

•The outdoor ethics guide helps the troop plan and conduct an outdoor program that emphasizes effectively practicing the principles of outdoor ethics.
•The guide works to help Scouts improve their outdoor ethics decision-making skills to minimize impacts as they participate in outdoor activities.
•He supports Scouts who are working to complete the relevant requirements for the Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Classranks.

Participants will gain:

•Knowledge of Outdoor Ethics: Leave No Trace and its seven principles, introduction to Tread Lightly! principles and The Land Ethic.
•Understanding of the importance of following minimum impact guidelines and stewardship in outdoor activities.
•Where to locate additional Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly! resources and opportunities for further training.

Successful completion of the course requires participation in all course activities, participant teaching exercises and conducting at least one OE session with participants or home unit.
