As summer winds down, Fall Recruitment is gearing up!
This is a great time to get more families involved in the world of Scouting. It allows us to expand our reach in our local communities and share the great experiences that Scouting offers.
Recruiting in the fall allows new youth and adults to join the fun and adventure from the beginning of the Scout year. It lets them fully participate in the activities, build lasting relationships, and progress with their peers.
As Scouts work through the ranks and move on to older age groups, it is critical that we continually recruit new members to maintain healthy units in our Council.
To ensure a successful recruitment season, it’s essential to start planning now and leverage the available resources.
Start Planning Now! Get the checklist below.
- Make sure your unit’s information on Beascout.org is up to date. Parents will be looking for you there!
- #AdventureOn Materials: Fliers, posters, logos and more! Check out the BSA Brand Center for the latest in customizable recruiting materials. Download, print and go!
- Request any marketing materials you need (flyers and/or peer-to-peer cards). The Council office has brand-new yard signs in stock for Cub Scout Packs, as well as New Family brochures, stickers, pencils, and flyers.
- Plan one or more recruiting events to take place in September and October. This is a great time to introduce camping to new families!
- Ask every Scout to bring a friend!
Thanks to the Membership Committee of the Eno River District for this great checklist!
New incentives for 2024
For new Cub Scouts who join between August 15 through October 31, 2024:
Occoneechee Council is offering a “fishy” promotion this Fall! All new Cub Scouts who join our Council get a free fishing rod (regardless of how they join).
National is also incentivizing new Scouts:
ALL new Cub Scouts who register via BeAScout.org from August 1 through October 31, 2024, will receive a special Welcome Kit in the mail (excluding APO/FPO addresses) shortly after completing registration. This Welcome Kit contains one car magnet, one sticker (for a water bottle), one Scout Life Mini Magazine, and a Peer-to-Peer Recruiting card that provides details on how to recruit a friend into Cub Scouts and earn a FREE Recruiter Strip Emblem at any Scout Shop.
On August 1, national Scouting America leaders held a presentation to offer ideas and inspiration for the fall recruiting season. Their presentation included insights into national goals (211,590 new Scouts by the end of 2024!) and marketing research that shows what kind of messaging appeals, as well as tips for hosting recruiting events and organizing social media campaigns.
