Summer camp has been a real pleasant experience in 2008 and has been running smoothly due the the efforts of many people, (staff, CIT, professionals, and volunteers). The food and facilities are significantly better than previous years and has really set Camp Durant above the average camp venues. Continuing to get better as the completion of the Grand Lodge, the Charlie Sullivan Training Center and other facility are being finished and improved. |

| 6/16/2008 | Boy Scouts of America Disaster Relief FundOur prayers go out to the families of the Scouts and Scouters affected by the recent tornado in Iowa that touched down at the Little Sioux Scout Ranch. On June 10, an F3 tornado caused a chimney in the bunkhouse to collapse resulting in the death of 4 young Scouts and causing injury to many others. Individual funds have been created to provide direct assistance to the families of those victims. We have been given some information about those private funds and we will provide additional information as it becomes available. The Boy Scouts of America has established a Disaster Relief Fund to help rebuild Scouting in those areas of the mid-west that have been affected by the ongoing weather related damages including tornadoes and floods. Contributions to Victims FamiliesThe families of the victims of the Little Sioux Scout Ranch tornado have set up various funds to provide direct and immediate support in their time of need. We are aware of the following funds at this time. We will continue to add more information as it becomes available. |
| 4/19/2008 | An Update on BSA Criminal Background Check PoliciesAs dedicated BSA volunteers, you understand the importance of keeping our youth safe in the Scouting program. To ensure Youth Protection, our organization has conducted criminal background checks on all new volunteers since April 2003. Because some volunteers have been continually registered in the program before April 2003, some have not had a criminal background check. In the next few months, we will be communicating with those volunteers on this issue. |
| 3/17/2008 | Welcome to the new Occoneechee Council web site. Many hours were spent designing the site to comply with industry standards and care was taken to ensure portability for every browser type at a resolution of 1024x768 or higher. In addition, we kept the site clean and not cluttered with a lot of graphics to ensure that all our users, from dial-up to broad-band connections will have a pleasant experience and not have to wait for pages to load. The site is compliant with section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (for disAbled users) and adheres to the standards set by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) of 1998. The web site isn't close to being finished yet but, we felt it was enough to give greater benefit than the older version of ocscouts.org Have a comment you like to share with council ? Please |
